Fondant and gumpaste masks
I am working on the decorations for the masquerade cake. I wish I could say I have a definite plan. It will be a 3 or 4 tier cake. The birthday girl requested a square cake. I'm thinking of mixing up the shapes and make a square bottom tier, a round tier and then another square with a round top tier. I made masks to go around the bottom tier. I used a bat cookie cutter and cut out the eye holes. I placed them on straws to get some dimension for the nose part. I think they are looking ok. I'm hoping to spray them silver. More to follow. Oh, I used my pasta maker to roll the fondant. It worked out very well. I wanted a consistent thickness of the masks, so that was the best tool I could use, and also, it was easier on the wrists, no rolling!
